Give me evidence which states otherwise. Surgical precision and no blood, all over night = fishy. Not saying it's aliens (although there's been claims of seeing glowing orbs the night of the mutilations), but it's definitely not normal.

You know, given the choice between pseudo-archaeology and accepted theory, it's an easy choice which I'd rather spend time reading. I like that Hancock offers alternative ideas, but that's all they are. There's some strange stuff out there, yeah, but there are solid accepted plans for how Stonehenge and the Pyramids were built. Hancock's wiki says he's a sociologist. It's no wonder he's good at spinning stories of ancient cultures which are essentially alien anyway if you consider modern man vs. pre-agricultural man. This show is so goddamn ridiculous that its hurting my brain. Alternative theories are great, but these are not theories. They're speculation based on a preconceived notion that non-humans somehow visited earth in the past.

I don't know, I'm watching the one called "The Mission" on youtube which asserted for about half an hour that animal/human hybrids as depictions of gods meant that aliens had bred with humans.
One of my favorite pieces of evidence with Giorgio was a sarcophagus in Egypt that had a bunch of animal bones all crushed up. Somehow that meant that they were human/animal hybrids that the Egyptians wanted to destroy forever.

An open mind is great, and the research on the Sphinx in the past 15 years has been pretty cool (ie: everyone and their mom who lived in Egypt rebuilt/restored it). I look forward to its future showings.

i agree though, I laugh at probably more than half of the speculations they propose. especially david childress. that guy is a joke. even the way he talks makes me laugh.
as far as puma punku goes, the main reason why I like this one (among other ancient structures) is that there are stones with precise lines and holes in them. the stones are made of diorite and granite. both are extremely hard minerals and hard to cut with standard tools. i'm not saying aliens did it, but there is no proper explanation on how the natives did it. it is also one of the many areas around the world that some scientists belive to be 12,000 years old.
I actually am starting to believe that there were some antediluvian cultures before the great flood. normally, I'd scoff at that idea, but every single culture around the world has a story or myth about a great flood. they are uncovering ruins all over the place of which seem to be over 10000 years old. I think there were few advanced cultures before the last ice age, only to see the homo sapiens bottleneck and start over, almost from scratch. more examples of currently "unexplained" and possibly antediluvian cultures are the underwater ruins they discovered off the coast of japan, dwarka india, and most notable and recent - Gobekli Tepe in Turkey.
I don't say this because i'm a hardcore bible follower (obviously i'm not), but that account of the flood is just one of hundreds. the epic of gilgamesh predates the bible and also has a story of the flood. it is quite fascinating that just about every culture has a great flood story, and there's ruins that could be over 12,000 years old. if anything, I believe this hypothesis over ancient aliens.

pumapunku was made by a huge mountain society that had access to prime metals and minerals. they had relatively advanced metallurgy technologies and an understanding of geometry and were good engineers. some of their techniques weren't passed on to future surrounding populations. there, i just explained pumapunku.
gobekli tepe is amazing. it's a testament to how advanced societies were before the rise of mesopotamia. but the earliest signs of human complex tool use and language developed began 40,000 before gobekli tepe was built. many discrete advances were made wherever groups of humans were, no matter how small, that were never passed on. "hunter-gatherer" is misleading because people were also perfectly capable of settling for extended periods of time. i don't doubt there were relatively advanced societies lost with the ice age. i'd love to see a structure from that period. unfortunately so far it's been impossible to find one so that period is clouded with the same myths extraterrestrials are.
the deluge myth is common among nearly every culture. nobody knows why. but if you were to formulate a creation myth today, wouldn't a great flood be a good way to start things off?
it's wishful thinking stacked on cherry-picked ambiguous evidence. history channel sits on the crossroads of ignorance about the ancients and extraterrestrials. they will fill in disputed gaps of ancient history with pure fiction to link them to aliens. then they pass it off as serious discussion and educated conclusions. it's fucking filthy but it's a good way to make some cash.

Science is based on the complete opposite, science is completely based on attempting to and hopefully succeeding at disproving theories, hopefully in the process of developing them.
Faith is universal, but scientific 'faith' is based on substantial evidence, ie: "I have faith that the Pythagorean theorem is correct and useful, because Pythagoras used mathematical proofs to arrive at said theorem, and I have used it myself to figure out many problems, therefore I have faith Pythagoras is as close to correct as anyone in this situation."
Religious faith is completely blind. Not only that, but it is unchangeable, thus making it COMPLETELY different than scientific 'faith'.
I would like to think that most people don't take this show seriously. I watch it because it's entertaining. They show fascinating archaeological discoveries that I've haven't already learned about, and they have wacky people talking about aliens, which is often laugh-inducing. Yeah, sure... there is always the possibility that aliens have visited our planet in the past, but there is no way to know that for certain unless we make contact with aliens in the present. The likelihood of that is pretty slim.
What is more likely to be the truth is that ancient humans were probably more technologically advanced than we know based on current historical evidence. Maybe the whole "great flood" thing happened and set civilization back. Who knows? I don't think those "ancient astronaut theorists" are giving the human species enough credit. Even in ancient times, we were capable of some pretty cool things. The pyramids weren't built with magic alien technology. They were built with pure, human determination... and a whole lot of slaves who were repeatedly whipped by a fanatically religious culture that thought their king was god.
In all seriousness, it is my opinion that the burning of the library at Alexandria was a greater crime against humanity than the Holocaust.
OK, now this is just fucking retarded. A greater crime against human knowledge, almost certainly, but the Nazis executed at least 10 million people. Some of you need to check up on your definition of "crimes against humanity".

Nah, the burning of the Libary of Alexandria was far more devastating than killing 10 million people, ancient/lost forbidden knowledge far outweighs a statistic. We may know how 10 million people died, but we dont know what was truely lost in that libary that will never be known again.

That is utter nonsense. There are no signs of wide literacy in ancient societies, and most likely the (maximum) 700,000 scrolls represented the works of tens of thousands of scholars, not millions. A lot of the scrolls were your typical Greek plays about gay cowboys eating pudding, hardly hidden or secretive knowledge. There is no real historical consensus about the destruction either; just as many works may have disappeared through the aging/degradation of the papyrus as any of the various apocryphal fires. There are at least 3 legends of the burning of the Library, and none of the 3 is based on empirical or concurrent sources. Did Caesar burn it in 48 BC, a Christian Patriarch in the 300's AD, or a Muslim in 640? How many buildings housed the collection, when was each destroyed, and how much of the collection was in them at the time of destruction? Would many of the scrolls have aged and disappeared over the course of 7+ centuries anyway? The answer to all these questions is: Who knows???
All of that aside, of course it was still NOT a crime against humanity, by technical definition, though the murder of 10 million plus European civilians pretty much fits the definition to a T.
Nope. The pursuit of mankind is the pursuit of knowledge. Regardless of who destroyed the library, they destroyed the lives of every person before that point as every living person had contributed to the knowledge that existed at the time whether they were literate or not.
Also, saying "we don't know for sure" is not a sound argument to make whilst trying to undermine something we will definitely never know.
It is a sound argument when we do not have any real historical sources that can definitively say that a portion or all of the collection was destroyed at a specific point in time. It's clear Caesar used fire in the city and may have damaged parts of the collection, and it's clear that Theophilus destroyed some pagan temples and artifacts, but again, not at all clear how this affected the collections tied to the Library. Therefore, we cannot even say that there was ever a deliberate destruction of and crime against knowledge. There is no proof that there was ever a deliberate purge of the works, merely that over time they disappeared, were destroyed, or lost. If we do know anything else for sure, why don't you enlighten us with a little evidence?
The International Military Tribunal defines "Crimes against humanity: murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against civilian populations, before or during the war; or persecutions on political, racial or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crime within the jurisdiction of the Tribunal, whether or not in violation of the domestic law of the country where perpetrated."
Clearly the Christian persecution of Pagans in 4th Century Alexandria would fit under the modern definition, but again, there is no evidentiary link between these events and the loss of the collection of the Library.
Furthermore, most of the works in the Library were copies or copies were made from the stored originals, so it was not, by design, a sole repository, even if the passage of time made many of the contained works unique.
The tragedy in the loss of the collection is just as likely rooted in the poor technological and intellectual understanding of archiving techniques at the time as it is in a deliberate attempt to snuff out religiously unpalatable material.
I'm not a Jew, and I can joke about the Holocaust, but clearly you're not jesting in your dismissal of abundantly documented mass murder. That's just not a very good starting point, intellectually, if you're trying to argue a point about "crimes against humanity".
