One of my wall heaters just says "Lo" for the temp. and the other unit says it's around 40. I'm thinking of leaving work right after my staff meeting and going home with a ceramic heater. Before I left, I lit the wood stove and set the dishwasher to turn on in 4hrs. I hope I don't come home to a mess.

You live in New England, no shit it's cold. Pour yourself another shot.

Dude, there is no reason to live in a 40 degree house.

wood burns...once it burns it goes out and stops producing heat. You have to re-wood it every 2 hours or so. I dont even try going to our cabin in Sandwich past October. Its brutal.

Do they use the term "Re-wood" in porn?

I can live just fine in 40 degrees. I'm just afraid of the pipes not being happy. the year before I moved into my place, they had the heat off and it was -20 for a week and the pipes burst. They did replace all the copper pipes with plastic ones.

On another note, my car broke down a mile from my house. I had to push the fucker into a parking lot in 3 degree weather. I think my finger tips are falling off. I am typing this post with my penis.

i've heard that a great way to stay warm during these very cold winter months is to do a barrel roll

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 24,2011 10:25am
that's how I sleep.

15 below at my house this morning. But we have this weird thing called "heat" that we turn on.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 24,2011 10:51am
In my house, I have a gas/wood stove, but it won't stay going. I haven't called the company about that yet.

Then I have a wall-heater in the bathroom that is from 1980's and works even if the power is off (natural gas), but it isn't putting out enough heat this year to even heat the bathroom. IDK why.

it's like that, but much much much older.

then I have 2 gas wall units. One never worked since I've been in the place. The other works when it wants. Last night, I saw it's temperature reading just drop and drop and drop until it just said Lo and even the fan on it isn't on. The problem is that most of the units out there don't come with blowers built in anymore. What I need to do is remove one of them completely and replace the other one with something like this
http://fireforless.com/empire-35-000-btu-d...nt-wall-furnace---ng-dv35sgnat.html

Which is the newer version of what I have. 35K BTU would work perfectly.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 24,2011 10:52am
the problem for me right now is that I don't have $2-3K to drop on heat. And the times of the year that I do have that money that I could spend, it's warm and I'm not planning for cold.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jan 24,2011 11:02am
get one of those amish heaters. they cost about $400-$500 but can heat huuuuge spaces quickly and for very little energy costs.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 24,2011 11:06am
they are only about 5,000 BTUs and I need 35,000 BTUs. so 7 of them would take up a lot of room and would be $3500 instead of $1,000 for the 35,000BTU unit I want.

oh shit. well that sucks then.

Wear a lavish fur coat about it. Zsa Zsa

they dont stay lit for very long though. you need like a pile of them to burn efficiently.

toggletoggle post by posbleak   at Jan 24,2011 2:55pm
Get a bunch and put 'em on a rotisserie. Add some BBQ sauce for a bonus midnight snack.

Not having money for oil comes to mind...
I'm in my living room as we speak with a space heater blowing full blast in my face and its still freezing in here.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 24,2011 5:54pm
I went home with a $39.99 electric heater. I hope my cats don't knock it over. The houe was fine. My dishwashr never went on after 4hrs though. I called stove stores about my wood/gas stove and they again said that wood/gas stoves don't exist. The suggested just cleaning it out and replacing the gaskts on the door. I will probably do that at lunch tomorrow and just burn a shit ton of wood while I'm at home tomorrow.
