it's 57 in my place right now... Thinking of turning on my wood stove tonight. Maybe I'll seal up my doors first.

burn down your neighbors house and use their skin for a coat.

electric heater on lowest possible setting so it doesn't blow a fuse.
apartment's oil heater on empty because the oil prices are too damn high.

or you're a pussy.

Probably turning my room's heater on tonight.

... Though, there's something really charming about smoking a bowl in bright red pajama pants while crouched over like Gollum and draped in bedsheets.

I love walking into my room in the winter cause both my cats are obvious lumps under my comforter...as soon as I walk in they start moving around and trying to find their way out from under so they can greet me...(by greet, I mean bug me for food)

the bedrooms stay pretty warm and all my electronics help, the rest of the house gets pretty cold. but fuck that, wear layers, drink heavily. it's not even decembuary yet.

toggletoggle post by Ridahs at Oct 27,2011 11:37am
Still not on, roommates are poor as fuck and I refuse to front the money, don't trust them to pay me back. Our Landlord sucks and never put insulation in a new section of wall in the front, so not only do we leak heat but the snow on the eave melts from all the heat loss and leaks back in. And the landlord was somehow a contractor for all his life?

We got them seals for the window, and I'm going to have to shove some sort of blockage into the back door because, again, our land lord sucks and there is a good two inch gap under the back door between the floor.

toggletoggle post by Permafrost at Oct 27,2011 2:47pm
we sealed our windows already, but our thermostats are FUCKED. first floor is permanently on 80ºF, and we can't get the second floor one to work at all....though i'd almost rather bundle up than risk dealing with a sauna up here.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Oct 27,2011 2:58pm
Moved into a house that uses oil instead of nat gas. Now, we're looking at alternatives for heat. I'd rather blow $200 on one of those electric heaters, then piss through oil every 4-5 weeks. But like it was stated above, it's only October. The heat ain't being turned on until December. FUCK. THAT.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 27,2011 3:25pm
i moved into a house where the heat isn't included, so i have no idea what to expect for oil. i'm not going to risk it though, i have layers, and my cats have fur.

toggletoggle post by ark at Oct 27,2011 3:28pm
buying oil sucks. don't do it. seal your windows and doors. cats can handle themselves just fine.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Oct 27,2011 3:34pm
if you tack up heavy sheets or a comforter or something like that over your windows it keeps the heat in and cold out like a mofo...

it also keeps out sunlight...but we dont get too much of that in the winter anyways so FUCK IT, AMIRITE?

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Oct 27,2011 3:39pm
Still wearing shorts a few days out of the week, tossing the comforter off of me when I go to bed and putting the windows down when I drive. I don't care if I ever turn the heat on, but when the ladyfriend stays over I may have to since she shivers in 60 degree weather.

toggletoggle post by demondave at Oct 27,2011 6:45pm

only turning your heat on while air conditioners are still in the windows is new england ...err i mean .. is real

Other than a small space heater my girlfriend brought over last year, I haven't turned on heat in like 3 years. Buy a sweatshirt ladies.

Get a Holmes electric quartz heater for $50 or $60, heat up the room you're in, and save ridiculous amounts of money.

Our house has an oil heat setup and we never use it, except when it's one of the five or ten coldest days of the year and the electric heaters in our house can't do it on their own.

If we were using our oil tank all year instead of quartz heaters, our heating bills would be 2-3 times what they are now, and we'd be fucked.

Eh i have a wood stove and wood is cheap and plentiful where i live. Fuck being uncomfortable while i play video games.

toggletoggle post by Mark_R at Oct 27,2011 8:29pm
I came home today and it was on. I actually tried to turn mine off, hopefully I turned the knob in the right direction.

toggletoggle post by Ridahs at Oct 28,2011 3:19am
Bitch ass female roommate turned it on before she went to bed. Turned that shit off, plan on making it a thermostat war. I don't understand why people turn on the heat as soon as it snows, it's still 60 in here without the oil on!

I think I'm going to have to go dad style and have the thermostat talk.

8-12 inches of snow in So Central NH/Western MA tomorrow night. Does this mean we get to make snow jack o' Lanterns and pour fake blood all over the snow banks for Halloween?

One of the best things about living in Rhode Island is avoiding snow at this time of year and one of the worst things is avoiding slush at those crucial times in December. If it's gonna slush, it may as well snow.

Apparently the cat has been pissing under the radiator in the living room, so now as soon as we turn the heat on - baked cat piss. All throughout the downstairs. FML

I was just in Portsmouth yesterday -- different all together from the Upper Valley. We've had a mist/fog for the last few days from the melting snow. It's just hanging in the valley up here.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2011 8:45am
I was in Bow Saturday so I saw some snow. But when I drove home from haverhill to portsmouth on sunday night, the fog was so thick, I thought that all I could think of was this

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 29,2011 10:42am
this has been fantastic, i haven't had to touch the heat.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 29,2011 10:47am
I've lit the wood stove a few times. Sometimes using the gas to ignite it.
I also hate showering in the cold so I lit the pilot in the bathroom so it wasn't 48 in there.
My place has mostly been mid-60's from all the electronics and the weather. Harder to sleep when it's above 61.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 18,2011 8:23am
I turned it on mostly a week or so ago, but there have only been 2 or 3 days that it has really been on. I can't turn the main wall unit on yet cause it isn't working. I burnt wood in my gas/wood stove last night and forgot to turn the heat back on. Woke up to a 45 degree house which I like.

toggletoggle post by BSV at Dec 18,2011 9:42am
still need to pull my AC and seal the windows.
