New site? Maybe some day.
I have shit luck. Since I moved here I've had 2 record players die. One was an 80$ shitbox from ShopKo(like Caldors/Lechmere) that the motor mount collapsed into itself and the other was my original one from years ago. Anyways
I want something decent, that you can still get needles for, that won't speed up and slow down while playing.
Ya know, something REAL |
You want those angel trumpets and devil trombones to really pop |
I got mine off some old dude on craigslist who just started embracing the digital age. He gave me about a 3ft stack of records too, some nice classics. I paid like $50 for the turntable and receiver, both are great quality. |
i picked up a technics/pioneer from the 80's in perfect condition for $50 from my coworker who has 2 garages full of old hifi and radio stuff. p-mount standard needles, belt drive, it's niiice. these were some of the best ever made. |
belt drive < direct drive |
hrm. Maybe a used pawn shop item. I know direct drive is better, it's more cash though.
Thanks |

Any one that has been smashed to pieces by HATERZ. |
either go to the good will and get something massive or spend about $100 and get one of the USB to TT things. |
I suggest the numark, but the gemini is decent too. |
I had one of the USB kind, I thought it sounded like garbage. I think it was a Gemini, I don't remember though. |
geminis are knock offs of technics. |
This is what I have or close enough.

The design is based off the Technics 1200 without spending a million dollars. It's heavy and seems well built.
Has a built in pre-amp which is useful if your receiver doesn't have a phono jack, but I wouldn't recommend using it... doesn't sound that great.
USB is a useless feature, since you can always just plug the RCA into your sound card or mic-in jack with the adapter that comes with it or that is like $2. |
^I have that Audio Technica Turntable too. I really like it. |
