Not only are they Catholic but my mom believes in aliens because she claimed one followed her home when she was 12

Believing in an alleged "miracle worker" who raised himself from the dead over 2000 years ago isn't much different than believing in aliens. Your mom claims she saw an alien, you believe in Jesus because someone just told you he was real?
I'm not trying to knock your belief, I'm just saying that the possibility of the existence of both are about the same. Being Catholic isn't that weird either, my family is Catholic, they're pretty normal people.

But everyone knows that jesus made aliens to confuse people.

Belief in aliens to me is much less strange than believing some dead dude is your savior. The universe is virtually endless. There's gotta be someone out there besides us.

Though whether or not you believe they've come to this planet is another story entirely.

I worked with someone who I was told didn't believe in dinosaurs because the Bible doesn't mention them.
It reminds me of that Bill Hicks piece where he makes fun of Fundamentalist Christians for thinking God planted dinosaur bones to test their faith. "We'll see who believes in me now! I'm a prankster-god!"

The scientific question gets posed "If God didn't need a creator, then why did the universe need a creator?"

"God is all knowing"

"Perhaps the universe is all knowing"

The universe is an all knowing god. Therefore, the universe and everything in it is God. Meaning that God is nothing special, because nobody's special, we're all the same in the end.

Good night.

I don't believe in Jesus because someone told me. I believe because I found him out on my own.

Please. You can't tell me that Jesus just popped into your head one day and *poof!* you're a believer. You had to have gotten it from somewhere. You just said your family's Catholic. What Catholic family neglects to teach their children about their religion?

Why does someone need another person to believe something? God reveals himself to people all the time without the use of other people. Besides, I don't follow blindly. I still have my doubts and questions like you all do so I don't have it all together.

Like right now, I'm wondering why God feels the need to heap issues on people when he knows they can't afford it. But I will learn in due time.

my view on it is that no one should BELIEVE in something... they should KNOW.
reading a book without a "works cited" section and taking "facts" from it is like claiming something that happened to a friend of a friend's mom's uncle's second cousin's co-worker really happened. you have no way of backing it up.

not to mention if every section of the world has they're own version of "what happened"... it kind of raises more than a few questions about the validity of everyone's story and what is the "ultimate", number 1 truth behind it all. i think of it as a game of "operator".

believe THAT.

not to mention the definition of "faith" is "a blind hope in someone/something"

edit: woops... mixed up faith and belief... FANCY THAT

Ok then. Let's say I have more faith than belief.

Discernment has always been more of a gift to me than faith or belief. Weird how things work out that way but I haven't given up yet.

Jesus was an alien. That's my theory.

Who gives a shit if he believes in Jesus or not. If it makes him feel better than by all means go for it. Arguing about any religion is futile.

Resistance is futile.

do you start threads like this so people will tell you that religion is dumb and you can retaliate by saying you believe regardless and it makes you stronger or whatever? like what the hell is the point in telling us that your family is Catholic and your mom believes in aliens other than to get people started, so you can tell them they are ignorant? belief doesnt need reaffirmation, its just there. if questions arise, then you should be seeking the answers to why they arose, not the answers to the questions.

toggletoggle post by PatMeebles at May 29,2007 11:29am
I think there actually was some records of Jesus' existence in official Roman census stuff. I could be mistaken, though.

come on, CTB...you should know by now that you;'ll need to defend your beliefs/ideas every time you make a thread

"CTB Thread: Hey, this new band is sweet.

Other RTTP'ers: Dude, How the fuck can you believe in Jesus!?"

- every thread CTB will ever make

I know it may seem that way, but I'm really not trying to do that. I hate Catholicism so much and I only mentioned that because it sounded funnier with what my mother told me earlier.

"Fundamentalist Christianity. Fascinating. These people actually believe the world is 12 thousand years old. Swear to God! Based on what? I asked them. 'Well, we looked at all the people in the Bible, and we added them up all the way back to Adam and Eve, their ages 12 thousand years.' Well, how fucking scientific! Okay. I didn't know that you'd gone to so much trouble there. That's good."

"You believe the world's 12 thousand years old? 'That's right.' Okay, I got one word to ask you. A one word question. Ready? 'Uh-uh.' Dinosaur."

"You ever notice how people who believe in creationism look really unevolved?"
